New Family Mass

Sunday, 4th October, saw the launch of Our Lady of Victories Family Mass at 12.00. There was a great turnout, with children of all ages coming together to sing the Lord's praises and celebrate the International Day for Life!

As part of this special liturgy, the children have their own Liturgy of the Word, where they leave the main church with volunteer parents to explore the themes in a way they can more easily understand - be that through artful expression for the younger ones, or to chat about God's word, for the older children.

The children rejoin the main congregation from the Offertory onwards, where they engage fully with other family members and join with our new children's choir, who greatly enhance the liturgy. The choir, led by Claire & Paddy, are looking to build on numbers, so if you have a child who likes to sing (from 3rd Class up), then do please bring them along to join.

The regular 12.00 congregation gave hugely positive feedback about the liturgy and many commentated on the lively, yet prayerful atmosphere. Our hope is that this liturgy will grow stronger in numbers in the coming weeks and months, so do please come along and bring your children with you.

In addition to Claire & Paddy, the parish expresses it gratitude to the volunteer parents who have undertaken to work with the children, so that they have a greater understanding of God's Word and, therefore, are more fully able to participate in the liturgy. Again, we could always do with more volunteers, so please don't be shy about joining this great little group!

Do This In Memory

dtim

Do This in Memory programme was launched, together with our Family Mass, on Sunday 4th October. There was a great turnout of boys and girls and it's still not too late to register your child! Simply contact our school chaplain, Jo McGlynn, through the parish office. Because DTIM is a parish based sacramental preparation programme for children preparing for First Communion, it doesn't matter whether or not your child is in one of our parish schools, or in school elsewhere. As long as you are part of our faith community in Our Lady of Victories, then you are more than welcome - even if your First Communion ceremony is taking place in another parish.

DTIM takes place in the context of the parish Sunday Eucharist. It is then continued in the home through the use of activities and resources for both parents/guardians and children. This highlights the importance of the Sunday Eucharist as a celebration where we gather, are nourished by the Word and the Bread of Life, and are sent forth to live the Gospel. It also acknowledges the home as the most important and significant place, where the faith of our children is nurtured, nourished and sustained. The THUMB magazine is a great resource for parents to help their children understand the Liturgy more fully.

Jo will text the parents as a reminder coming up to each DTIM Sunday, so please do text her back to let her know if you'll be attending. This is very important, as she needs to know numbers in order to prepare materials, etc. Congratulations to all the children who made their First Holy Communion last May.
