Our church teaches that: 'By the sacrament of Confirmation the faithful are endowed with the special strength of the Holy Spirit in order to become true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread the faith by word and deed'.

Preparation for this sacrament is still largely confined within the schools. However, like Do This in Memory regarding the First Eucharist, there are moves to bring preparation out of the school setting and into the parish community. A parish based preparation programme for Confirmation candidates called You Shall Be My Witnesses has being introduced in some parishes. This programme explores what it means to belong to the Christian family, what we believe, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and how we can witness to the activity of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
